Conservative Living Constitutionalists...oh my!

Now at first blush, many of you may react angrily at this heading. "Mark, I'm a conservative and how dare you call me a "Living Constitutionalist!"
So, before you email me with a piece of you mind, please hear me out. You might be a living constitutionalist without even knowing it and to some degree, you've been trained to think this way over most of your education and adult of life...just like I was.
So, let's begin with definitions. What is a living constitutionalist?
From the University of Chicago Law School: "A living Constitution is one that evolves, changes over time, and adapts to new circumstances, without being formally amended."
Notice some key words in this definition; "evolves;" "changes over time;" "adapts;" "new circumstances;" "without being FORMALLY AMENDED." Examined honestly, very few "conservatives" can claim to not be living constitutionalists, for example;

Is there a right or wrong way to understand the Constitution? YES

The "living Constitution" crowd is alive and well in our public schools....if you're a parent, you should be well aware of this.
This past week, Joshua, myself and Scott have been engaging in a debate of sorts with people in our local community, including teachers in our local school. Most of these folks firmly believe in the "living Constitution" theory even though they are unable to present a shred of factual evidence this was the intent of the Framers and Ratifiers. Some seem to believe, based on anecdotal stories of past Presidents, - the very men who developed the Constitution with a VERY clear desire to limit the general government - that these men experience a sort of spell that comes over them and they have no choice but to deny the authority of the Constitution, violate it, and almost immediately become "living constitutionalists."

At What Point Does Separation Make Sense?

Earlier this week, Scott posted an article on our facebook page titled, "Will It Take Revolution?" published by Canada Free Press. As I was reading through the article, I couldn't help but think that Mark, Scott, or I could have penned it because the content almost mirrored our constant dialogue over the past year or two. The author, Douglas V. Gibbs, brilliantly captures the essence of the current political landscape and ultimately makes the same point that military leaders do in times of intense situations: "All options must be on the table."
